Integrity

If you give up a little of your integrity, a little at a time, you will find out in the end that you have lost it all. Integrity is indivisible.

Webster defines integrity as, "uncompromising adherence to word and ethical principles; the state of being whole or entire in an unimpaired condition".

Integrity is a state of being, taken in its entirety. It is never a seasonal thing. Today and in the particular situation, we adhere to the right principle and tomorrow in another situation we take the opposite stand. It is a question of holding on to principles and holding and grasping on to it furiously or else if we loosely grasp it, it is akin to not grasping it at all.

In the prison world from inmates to personnel, there seems to be scarcity of people with uncompromising stance for moral and ethical principles. Immorality, dishonesty, pornography, etc, etc.; in other words the existence of decadent culture and practices abound. Common is the double standard of morality as if integrity could come out and be treated in bits and pieces.

People too are very particular of the form, the appearance how things would look as if form could be the barometer for integrity.

One's integrity is measured by the way we look at things, our ability to distinguish right from wrong and our stand for the truth, the good and the just at all reasons and in all circumstances. It is not being arbitrary of our decisions but on judgment based on correct and scientific analysis of things.

We are not rich by what we possess but rather by what we can do without.

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

We usually measure richness by how much money or material things we have in life; how expensive and glamorous we live. . . the food we eat, the house we live, the cars we drive, the clothes, jewelries, cosmetics we wear and apply, the kind of hobbies we involve ourselves, and what not.

But being rich could also be measured by how productive we are in life; how much and how we have used our creative powers to keep us fulfilled and make others share the same. It is being resourceful, able to do things or come up with things with no money or the least expense but being innovative, turning gems out of what is garbage, putting art, colors, and taste and meaning to what once was blurred and meaningless. Being rich is being creative in life. Being rich living your life to the fullest.

My Aunt is a volunteer to help the poor people. She seems to have very low salary in her job. But what I admire about her is her passion to help the least of our brothers and sisters unconditionally. Though she is not rich in money and gold, but she is rich in love given to her by the masses who love her so much.

Real richness is a state of the mind and heart. it is putting soul and life in whatever we think and do. It is being able to bloom where we are planted.
